The Elm Tree Newsletter September 2010
We would like to extend a warm welcome to our new families. Joining us in September we have:
Luciana Lee-Cheng – T/Th AMs
Nephra Fischer – MWF Full Days
Jaiden LaFond – MW AMs
Parent Community Night
Our parent meeting will be on Thursday, September 2nd from 5:30-7:00 pm. This parents-only meeting will be held at The Elm Tree and parents may bring an appetizer type dish or snack to share if they would like. We will be discussing what a “natural playscapes” playground is and unveiling the plan that the Elm Tree teachers have come up with for the backyard! Included with this newsletter is an article written by Rusty Keeler about natural playscapes, hopefully each of you will have a chance to read it before the parent meeting. We will also discuss the logistics of our upcoming yard sale fundraiser. Hope to see everyone there!
Our Blog and Daily Report
Every day, well, nearly every day, we write up a “daily report” on our blog. Fun and interesting snippets on the songs, activities, food and events of the day can be found here. Just type in www.TheElmTree.org/Blog. Please let us know of any other ideas you may have about how this blog could be of service to our parent community.
Just a reminder that beginning September 1st the new tuition schedule will take effect and our hours will change to 8:00-4:00 everyday. We are also going to be providing 7th Generation chlorine-free diapers for the kids starting September 1st. If you would like to take home any remaining diapers that your child has here, please feel free to do so. If you don’t want to bring them home, we can continue to use them for your child before switching to the Elm Tree diapers.
New 2010-2011 school program calendars were handed out last month; if you need another please let us know. We will also have a new family roster available by this Thursday. Check it over and if any information is incorrect please inform us of the necessary changes ASAP.
Our annual yard sale fundraiser will be Saturday and Sunday the 11th & 12th of this month. All funds raised at the sale this year will go towards funding the natural playscapes playground which will be installed in phases over the next 12 months. Any donations are appreciated; plan to bring them in next week as our garage is currently pretty full.
The hours of the yard sale will be 8:00-3:00 each day. We will have parents volunteer in shifts and we will also need folks to hang out with the kids will others are working the sale. There will be a sign-up sheet available at the parent meeting and thereafter by the sign-in sheet.
Other tasks that will help the sale go smoothly will be included on the sheet such as making and hanging up signs, setting up on Friday evening and helping sort out the donations in the garage. We look forward to the chance to get to know each of you better and to make this yard sale a great success!
September Curriculum Focus
Our curriculum for this month will be transportation. Look for fun activities at the art table such as painting with cars and chalk train tracks outside. At group time we will take lots of trips to various places using different forms of transportation. For example, we might ride into the back room in a train and then return on a “bicycle built for two”.
